After more than a decade of anticipation, fans of the Grand Theft Auto series will soon get their most detailed look yet at the new installment. On Wednesday, August 6, 2026, Rockstar Games announced that a special program titled "Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look" will premiere on August 27, 2026. This move marks a significant marketing milestone, as the material will first appear on the Netflix streaming platform before hitting traditional gaming channels.
According to a press release from Rockstar Games, as reported by Variety, the "Extended Look" will be available to Netflix subscribers on Thursday, August 27, at 3:00 PM ET. Later that same day at 9:00 PM ET, the same content will be posted on Rockstar Games' official YouTube channel and the game's website. This collaboration with Netflix continues an earlier partnership, when they jointly launched the original GTA trilogy on mobile devices.
The development of Grand Theft Auto VI has been underway for 13 years, and the official synopsis reveals a story set in Vice City, in the state of Leonida. The main protagonists are Jason and Lucia, who, after a botched job, find themselves in the middle of a grand conspiracy. "They've always known the odds were against them. But when an easy job goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, caught in a conspiracy that stretches across the entire state of Leonida, forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to get out alive," the synopsis reads.
The news of the "Extended Look" comes after Take-Two Interactive, the owner of Rockstar Games, announced the game's pricing on June 24, 2026. The standard edition will cost $79.99, whether digital or physical, with the physical version containing a code in the box instead of a disc. For those who want more, the "ultimate" version, priced at $99.99, includes an exclusive collection of top-tier vehicles, weapons, clothing, and actions woven throughout all aspects of the game.
Rockstar has confirmed that the launch version of the game will consist of "a single-player experience set in the largest, most immersive evolution of the series to date." Interestingly, the announcement made no mention of multiplayer or online components, suggesting that the focus is entirely on the single-player campaign. Additional details about the content of the "Extended Look" have not yet been released.
